COMMONWEALTH ESPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP
BIRMINGHAM 2022

ESPORTS AND SPORT

It's an old argument about esports being recognised as a real sporting discipline.  Regardless of whether it is the same or different, it is important that esports gets more recognition in the UK and abroad.  The scene is growing and contains some of the best communities for competitive play outside traditional sport.  I am happy to have been a part of this event where discussions were held about the future of esports.  If this event proves a success, then the esports may even be considered for the Olympics!

A FACEIT PRODUCTION

I was working as an Xpression graphics operator for 5 days on this job in Birmingham.  The Faceit team had put together a spectacular event.  I was to run their graphics package and make ad hoc changes to the ever shifting run of show over the event.

eFootball, DOTA2 and Rocket League were all played as Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal matches.

Bracket updates, team images and hero shots were all worked into the broadcast and built during the live show.  It was an awesome job.

MEDAL WINNERS

I've watched hundreds of people win Olympic medals in traditional sports and it is often a heart warming experience.

Watching these players win medals representing their countries and their games was just as emotional as watching it at the Olympics.  The ecstasy and the agony is all on display.  Beautiful moments.
